Phase 1: CVD Screening
The purpose of the CVD screening is to identify employees at varying levels
of risk for CVD. The CVD risk assessment (screening) is offered at least once
a month for all KSC and CCAFS employees. Parameters measured include exercise
frequency, blood pressure, weight, height, body mass index, total cholesterol
(including HDL and LDL cholesterol), blood glucose and triglycerides. Participants
fast for 12 hours and complete questionnaires prior to the screening.

Phase 2: CVD Risk Counseling and Health Behavior Intake
The purpose of this phase is to educate employees concerning their CVD risk.
CVD education is provided through both the risk profile letter and individual
counseling for high risk employees. Individual counseling consists of phone
calls made to high risk employees in which an intake of current CVD risk-related
health behaviors is done and brief counseling is given. CVD risk reduction
information is then sent to the participant based on desired changes in health
behaviors. Follow-up is done at one and three months after counseling.
